Triton is the
biggest satellite of Neptune, about 2700 km (1680 miles). Willian Lassel has
discovered it in October-10-1846. The satellite has few kilometers of
atmosphere, mainly composed by Nitrogen, and temperatures around –235°C (-391°F). Triton turns in
opposition to the planet Neptune, the only one known satellite in this
situation. Its orbit is decreasing progressively according to some
calculations, and probably Triton is going to crash Neptune in a colossal
event. |
